Project

Cycling is a European success story for the heading of the Declaration on Cycling as climate friendly Transport Mode and ECO-CICLE will certainly further contribute to that. Over the last decade, cycle-tourism in Europe has increased exponentially, both in terms of infrastructure & service and in terms of public attendance. Due to its potential to attracting added-value in tourism and to promoting less known tourism destination, cycling represents a strategic priority for many regions. ECO-CICLE appears to be extremely challenging for territorial management and land use planning being cycle-tourism a powerful opportunity to plan infrastructure and create services and employments in remote and natural areas.

The general objective of ECO-CICLE (duration 06/2018 – 06/2022) concerns the structural funds programme and the regional development policies for promoting and improving investments in cycle tourism in nature reserves. The action plan of ECO-CICLE will cover 18 new projects, addressing regional policy instruments. Some require funds in order to afford infrastructure costs, while others are more management and technology oriented.

In the region Leipzig this will be in the form of the elaboration of concrete recommendations in line with the Charter Leipzig Neuseenland 2030. This charter focusses on the sustainable development of the water landscape in the region Leipzig.

In the ECO-CICLE project we have the following partners: County Council of Huelva (ES), Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship (PL), Aufbauwerk Region Leipzig GmbH (DE), RDA of Northern Primorska Ltd Nova Gorica (SI), Basilicata Region (IT), Regional Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (ES), European Cyclists Federation asbl (BE).
