Cities and mobility: international partner meeting in Leipzig
21.03.2019
Leipzig, 14.03-15.03.2019 – While well-known mobility concepts are, in the year 2019, being scrutinized, the focus is moving on ideas for new mobility concepts, pedestrianised inner cities and the use of alternative means of transport. The rate of CO2-emissions in cities is too high for the health of its citizens. Last week, not only the young generation has demonstrated for a better climate, but also the partners of the project DEMO-EC have discussed the topic “Mobility concepts”.
From the 14th until the 15th of March 2019 European partners – from Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and Czech Republic – came together in the City of Leipzig to discuss and to exchange experiences about the topic mobility management. “How could the CO2-emmison in cities be reduced?” forms the main question in the Interreg Europe project DEMO-EC.
Good practices about “public transport” and “car reduction” have been presented by the several partners. As a result of these presentations, there has been a vivid discussion with disparate – but very interesting – views on those topics. This led to the conclusion that the usage and promotion of alternative means of transport is widely discussed in each region. For example, while the concept “e-bike-sharing” has been developed into an advanced stage in Zaragoza (Spain), it is still in an early stage in the region Genova (Italy). Meanwhile, the implementation of e-bike-sharing systems is still in distant future for the Slovenian and Polish partner regions.
The partners are currently starting to develop seven regional action plans, one for each partner. Those action plans will include several recommendations for a new mobility management and should be completed until December 2019.

Leipzig, 07.03.2019 – After the start of this new year 2019 and the new year resolutions, we are coming in that time of the year, in which several international partner meetings across Europe will be organized. Once again, the Aufbauwerk-Team will travel across Europe in order to meet their European partners, to network and to make the Region Leipzig more known by the European project partners and cities.
In scope of each project, that is being subsidised by the European Commission, an international partner meeting has to occur once a semester. During those two-day-meetings the European partners receive the opportunity to exchange and share information about their ongoing projects.
Next week the starting signal will be given with the international partner meeting in scope of the DEMO-EC project, which will take place from the 14th until the 15th of March 2019. The international partners of the DEMO-EC project will come together in the City of Leipzig in order to discuss the European project about mobility. Renewable energy – International partner meeting in Leipzig: COSMENERG-4i
22.02.2019
Leipzig, 20.02.2019 – Renewable energy is more and more talked about. Especially in the City of Leipzig – the energy metropole – the topic of renewable energy is present. Since 2018, the COSMENERG-4i network is intensively occupied with this energy topic. It is the global cluster for renewable energy and environmental technologies. In this scope the international partner meeting was held from the 20th until the 21st of February 2019 in Leipzig – organised by the NEU e.V. (Network Energy and Environment).
Partner coming from Hungary, Romania, Poland and Serbia travelled to Leipzig to discuss the topic of “renewable energy”. The City of Leipzig, NEU e.V. and the Aufbauwerk Region Leipzig participated as the German partners of the meeting. Ongoing initiatives for renewable energy in the region Leipzig have been introduced to the participants, such as the success story of NEXTMOVE (Renting e-cars) and Clevershuttle (Taxi- and carsharing company who uses e-cars). The Aufbauwerk Region Leipzig introduced itself to the partners and could inform about their role on the European and regional level.
With the study visit to the SpinLab Leipzig – HHL Accelerator – the partner received more information about the several start-up initiatives in Leipzig. The City of Leipzig, EEX and other local companies are partner of the SpinLab. In order to give the participating partner a more concrete idea about the start-ups, the Vesputi and SQLNet Company gave a short pitch about their innovative ideas and business plan, which was received very positive by the partners.
During this two-day partner meeting a big range of energy topics have been discussed, for example ongoing initiatives and projects in Leipzig. The partner meeting offered the participating partner the chance to become familiar with the region Leipzig and other partner. The next partner meeting will be held in Bucharest.

A city without CO2 emission: How could the inner ring road of Leipzig look like?
17.01.2019
Leipzig, 14.01.2019 – Topics as ‘green city’ and ‘Reduction of CO2 in big cities’ are more and more spoken about. How could the Leipzig inner ring road look like, if f.e. there is a reduce of 50% car traffic? On Monday evening the second workshop about ‘Concept of urban space: The City Center of Leipzig is growing over the inner ring road’ was held in Leipzig. This workshop was organised by the City of Leipzig in context of the European DEMO-EC Project.
Architecture students from the Bauhaus-University Weimar presented their innovative designs of new possibilities of the inner ring road to local actors of the City of Leipzig. The concepts of the students were characterised by a high degree of innovation, appreciation and retention of the history of Leipzig.
Some designs were better accepted by the audience than others. After the presentation the students received the opportunity, through group discussions with local actors, to defend their visions or to get more insights into it.
Are you getting curious to the results of the students or do you wonder how the inner ring road of Leipzig could look like if there is 50% less car traffic? Take a look at www.leipzig.de/stadtraumkonzept for more information about the project and for further announcements.
